Next Up: The Year of Living Biblically

Christine has chosen The Year of Living Biblically: One Man's Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible by A. J. Jacobs as our next book!

As Amazon.com's best book of Sept. 2007 review states: "Though no fatted calves were harmed in the making of this book, Jacobs chronicles 12 months living a remarkably strict Biblical life full of charity, chastity, and facial hair as impressive as anything found in The Lord of the Rings. Through it all, he manages to brilliantly keep things light, while avoiding the sinful eye of judgment."

For a year, the author intends to follow the commandments of the Bible as literally as possible: not just the well-known ones (like "Thou shalt not kill") but the obscure ones as well (such as wearing clothes of mixed fibers).  And it's supposed to be quite the laugh...can't wait to see what Mr. Jacobs delivers!  Again, let's start a thread about when we want to meet up next, Christine...if you wanna take the lead on this that'd be super!

Hi guys! Thank you, Kat :)

So, I am definitely up for hosting the next book club, unless someone else really wants to! A Year of Living Biblically is kind of long, so how long should we have to read it?

I'm down for whenever. How would we feel about February 26th or March 5th? Both are Saturdays. Happy reading!

Just realized I might be away for Mardi Gras on the 4th of March, agh, so many holidays coming up! And then spring break for IU is the 12th-21st. Don't know if that affects anyone, but I'll still be around :)

I'm down for whenever . . . however Saturdays definitely work best for me. Yay!

I can do Feb. 26th...or I can do the latter part of spring break (after the 15th). Also, FYI 2 copies and 1 audio-book copy at the lib. in case anyone wants to go the freebie route :)

Omg I am a terrible daughter, and was just putting book club in my calendar when I realized the 26th is my dad's birthday! Can we do March 5th? :) Happy reading!

March 5th works for me! Also, I just added Emily and Erin H. to our group...I think they should be getting email notifications starting now!

On a sillier note...if you two ladies want to send me a silly photo (katherine.kpp@gmail) I'll totally make a blingee picture to add to our crew on this here blogginz ;)

Hi guys! I JUST finished, so how do you guys feel about this Friday (March 4th) for book club at my place? I live in Bart Villa (2307 E 2nd Street, Apt 19), and there should be parking available in the front lot.

I have some sweet bible-themed food ideas, but am still open to recommendations!

Works for me! Still reading but should be finished by then! Shall I bring some Kendall-Jackson red wine? ;)

That works just fine for me!

Wine sounds delicious! I'll have a couple bottles, too.

Should we say 7pm again?

Hey - Unfortunately weekdays are no good for me...plus shit hit the fan at work and I'll be putting in overtime on Friday. Loved the book, though! Have fun! :)

Hey Guys - I can't make this one this time. :( Jake's parents are coming into town that evening and we're celebrating his dad's retirement. Sorry :(

Aww, so Charlotte, Kat, and I are the only ones who can come? Should we try to reschedule?

I could do Saturday too, no worries!

Or we could have a super-awesome three-person book club? That means we may each have to drink a bottle of wine, though...

I'm down for whatever! I'll leave downing an entire bottle of wine to Kat though. :)

...And Lyndsey too (just mayhaps a bit late)! So 4 person BC?

I'll be otherwise detained on Sat. :( [I think that may ring true for some other folks too].

Of course, I'm always down to drink some wine...although I can only promise 1/2 to 3/4 of a bottle! ;)
