Next Up: The Eyre Affair

Katie has chosen The Eyre Affair for our April book!

Despite being written in 2001, The Eyre Affair takes place in an alternate version of 1985 where the Crimean War has waged for hundreds of years and time-travel - and much stranger things - are commonplace.  The story follows a female protagonist named Thursday Next who is a "Literatec Operative," meaning...she investigates literary crimes.  In this alternate reality, literature is taken as seriously (if not more) than religion...for example "Baconites" go door to door trying to convince people that it was Bacon who actually wrote the plays attributed to Shakespeare.  As you may be able to guess, the literary crime in question involves Jane Eyre...for the rest of the story you'll have to read it yourself!  So let's get a thread started about when we want to meet up next :)

Thanks, Kat! Saturdays work best for me and I'm pretty flexible so whatever works best for all of you will likely be okay for me!

I have a few things up in the air at the moment. So..it currently looks like April 16th would work best for me. Does that work for other peeps?

sounds good - but that's a special day for someone...Maybe we can go get drinks afterwards to celebrate Charlotte's Birthday. (It's also Holly's Birthday then too!)

The 16th is fine with me! All other weekends inApril have something going on for me. And we don't need to do anything for my birthday. Sleeping in that day is good enough for me!

Ooh if anyone still needs to buy the book, there are like 50 copies for $0.01 on Amazon.com :)

I'll have to sit this one out. My mom wants to spend the day together for my birthday.

So... Saturday is the party and I have to work until 7. We can meet before the party if you guys still want to - Kat I didn't know if this will still work since you might have to prep for the party?
Aaaah, sorry - I didn't realize I would have to work...but of course it's Little 5 and NOBODY wants their shifts at the tanning salon and I can't say no to extra $$ :)

If book club is at 8:30 then when is the 90's party? Are we dressing 90's for book club too?

90's Party: Friday
Book club: Saturday
I was sooo confused about this, too, because I thought the 90's was on Saturday for some reason :)

Loved the book! And I think I can make it Saturday at 8:30 as long as I can have directions again and Adam doesn't force me to spend the weekend in Canada :)

My apartment: 1161 S. Adams St. #8. If you are driving west on 2nd street, turn left on Adams (right before BW3's) go straight through the stop sign. Apartment complex will be on your left after the office building. Turn immediately left after the roundabout. Building will be on your right...2nd set of stairs... go to the top floor... first door on the right. If you get lost... call 608.213.9479 :)
